Cast and Crew of Lost, Interviews, Season 6 Comments
Spoiler Alert: this interview contains minor spoilers.
So there are limits to what Ben will do to get what he wants, at least in the Sideways?
Yes, Ben was presented with a parallel choice — a smaller one, but an echo of a bad choice he made in the island world — and he made a different call, a softer call that we’re happy about. Was it nice to play Ben’s softer side?
I’ll tell you what was fun: When Ben tries to play his card with the principal but he hasn’t the confidence that his alter ego has. He trembles a little when he makes his big play because he knows he’s out of his depth. It was fun to find that shakiness because that’s a color they’ve never asked of me on the show before. It’s almost like I’m playing a different character this season.
Now that Widmore’s back, will Ben’s battle with him resume?
You’d think. [The producers] went to such pains to establish it. But there are three episodes still to film and that’s something that hasn’t been shot yet. I suppose it’s possible that the characters’ [conflict] can be resolved without facing off against one another, maybe through the agency of some third party.Would that be disappointing?
I’m just a passenger on this ride. But I am anxious for answers that don’t seem to be coming in a rush. I think it’s partly my own personal misunderstanding of the narrative of the show and an over-expectation of climactic answering. Some fans feel a similar frustration.
I think the answering is coming in a subtler way than many of us expected. But the writers’ agenda may not yet be clear to us.When will you get the finale script?
Two days before we shoot it. If I get a complete one. You know with the finale of all finales, there are gonna be blank scenes in it that only the actors involved are privy to. I hope I’m on the show long enough that I’m in one of those secret scenes.Wait — could Ben really not make it to the end?
There have been some casualties. Pretty soon, there’s only gonna be a few standing.

LOST Producers: What It Means to Be a Candidate, What’s the “Sideways” World
Cast and Crew of Lost, Interviews, Season 6 CommentsNothing too spoilery, just some teasers from the writers:
“The concept of the candidates is really central to the final season of the show,” Cuse tells TVGuide.com. “Jacob is dead so that leaves a significant problem for the people on the island. Who is destined to be the person who is protecting this place?”
“One of the big questions of this show is: Why were these people brought to this island?” Lindelof adds. “At least now we have some sense — if Jacob is responsible for bringing them there — that it has something to do with the fact that he’s been observing them for quite some time. We now have information that he had this lighthouse, that he was able to see these people, look into their lives. For some reason, he chose them. We’ll find out what that reason is in the coming weeks.”
And how does that reason relate to the “sideways” world, the alternate universe in which Oceanic 815 landed safely in Los Angeles? We’ve seen some things have changed significantly there (um, Jack has a son), while for others, salient details remain the same (Locke is still in a wheelchair, even though he also appears to be on speaking terms with the man who we know to have put him there). So who’s David’s mother and how was Locke paralyzed in this universe? “These are all the right questions,” producer Edward Kitsis says. “Those questions that you’re picking up on are things that when we made those episodes, we very consciously wanted you to wonder about that,” adds producer Adam Horowitz.
While many fans have griped that the sideways story lines have been an unnecessary distraction this season, Lindelof emphasizes that they’re very important. “People are saying [they] don’t need these stories and all we can say is they’re absolutely 100 percent necessary to tell the story of Lost, and hopefully by the end of the season it will be more obvious as to why,” he said.
Here’s a question that might boggle your mind: If you die in one universe, what happens to your body in other universes? “Charlie and Boone died in the island, but they seem to be alive in the sideways,” said Lindelof. “What happens if you die in the sideways? That’s an interesting question.” Bottom line: Will there be a lot of death this season? “It depends on what your version of a lot is,” said Kitsis. “For my mother, one is too many.”

Michael Emerson spoke with TV Guide Magazine at the premiere of HBO’s upcoming miniseries “The Pacific”:
I have no idea how it is going to end because we aren’t finished shooting the season yet. I would have thought by this point I would have an inkling, but I don’t have even that. When I go back to Hawaii next week, there are still three more episodes to shoot. Those scripts are unknown. In fact, they haven’t been handed out to the cast because they have not be written and finalized.
