The above tweet was filed by Damon Lindelof on Tuesday. Returning from his well deserved post-Lost vacation, Lindelof is ready to get to work full time on scripting the Star Trek sequel with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. We are now exactly two years away from the announced release date of June 29th, 2012.

The screenwriting team told TrekMovie last week at the Saturn Awards that they have a story and that “the next phase is to get together and try to destroy it.” Looks like that can now happen. Orci/Kurtzman claim to have a “front runner” for the sequel’s villain, and while the bad guy will likely be a bigger part of the sequel, the second movie is really “about how does the team now that they are on their journey, live together as a family, so that is still a big engine of the narrative.” They also have no idea what the title or the movie will be, and seem to have dismissed the idea of “Star Trek 2″ or “Star Trek XII”, suggesting that ut will likely have “Star Trek:” followed by a sub title.

So will this final season answer all our queries? Because, you know, we’ve got a lot. “We’re sort of presenting our best version of the show, and there are going to be some very conclusive elements to this season,” said Lindelof. “But at the same time, it wouldn’t be Lost if there wasn’t sort of grounds for debate amongst the fans.” Does Lindelof ever go online to check out all the theories that have been tossed around on the boards? “You can go crazy if you jump down the rabbit hole of what are people’s theories and how close they are to what it is we’re doing,” Lindelof stated. “But I think there is something rewarding about when you throw like a little Easter egg out there,” said. “And somebody goes, ‘Wait a minute. I found this. And this is what I think it means.’ You kind of sit back in your chair and say, ‘Thank god.’ Because there’s nothing worse than hiding an Easter egg and then nobody finds it.” talked a little bit about the show’s final season and the endgame we’ve all been patiently awaiting. “Every season sort of brings its own challenges,” Lindelof offered. “Obviously last year was like, how do you do time travel in a new and inventive way without confusing people or being too weird?” Lindelof went on to say that the obvious challenge for this season was being able to end the show correctly. “I do feel like one of the things that

Are the producers and writers scaling back on their creative supplemental web-content this year? “This year we’re really just focused on the mothership, the show itself,” Lindelof admitted. “And the idea of sort of doing all these little net adventures was something that was more applicable to past seasons.” And what about all the net-rumors regarding former cast members, some dead favorites, returning to the show for a final bow? “Obviously in last year’s finale we posited the possibility of sort of changing the flow of history itself,” Lindelof recounted. “So that would mean that characters who were dead wouldn’t be technically dead if they died on the island.” Lindelof, however, was not ready to reveal any names. We’ll just have to wait and see. And by wait, I mean really wait, because one of the marketing strategies heading into Season 6 involves not leaking any footage. Both Lindelof and Carlton Cuse feel that if the audience caught site of any imagery from the upcoming episodes that they’d immediately know what they were up regarding the fallout from the Season 5 finale.

Here’s a new mini-interview with Damon Lindelof:

Last night in Beverly Hills, Sci Fi Crush got the chance to speak briefly with Damon Lindelof, executive producer of Lost and co-writer of the upcoming Star Trek sequel.

The hit ABC series, Lost, approaches its sixth and final season in 2010.  Lindelof described writing the last episodes to be “an enormous emotional experience” and confirmed that the show’s ending has been in the works since the very beginning.

The writer also promised Lost fans that all of the show’s loose ends will be tied up in a fair and satisfying way.  ”We hope that all who put their faith in us to resolve these stories will be rewarded.  We’ve really been writing this season for the fans.”

Damon Lindelof also produced this summer’s reboot of Star Trek and has been working with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on developing the sequel.  ”It’s in the preliminary stages,” he said, “We’ve thrown around some cool ideas, but that’s it.”

Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are up for an Emmy for their two-parter Lost episode, “The Incident.”

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot won’t hit the theaters until May 8, but Paramount is already moving forward with a sequel. Damon has confirmed that he will be joining the writers team:

Abrams’ Lost cocreator Damon Lindelof will join Fringe producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman — who penned the upcoming release — to write the screenplay for the follow-up, according to Variety. Abrams will return to produce the next installment, but no decision has been made about whether he’ll also direct.

Lindelof said he hopes fans don’t think he and his colleagues are getting ahead of themselves. “There’s obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet,” he said. “But we’re so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed.”

Kurtzman is eager to get fan reaction before deciding which way to go, but the trio hopes to deliver a script by Christmas for what could be a summer 2011 release.

Orzi and Kurtzman are currently working with Lindelof on Dreamworks’ Cowboys and Aliens.

As some of you may already know, LOST’s co-creator J.J. Abrams has directed the new Star Trek film. What you may not know is that the movie has been produced by another LOST co-creator: Damon Lindelof. Joblo.com interviewed him to talk about the film:

Played by Eric Bana, Nero is… well, we don’t really know do we? He’s the villain and he has tattoos all over his face, but beyond that, who is Nero? Normally I’d just speculate and come up with my own ideas but seeing as how we’re pulling back the curtain so to speak, I decided to get someone on the horn who could actually provide us with some answers. It’s STAR TREK producer and “Lost” overlord Damon Lindelof!

While Damon is practiced in the art of being cagey from his years on “Lost,” he was willing to open up a bit about the movie and, specifically, Nero. Let’s see what he can tell us.

Is Nero a Romulan? “We can clearly see that Nero has pointed ears and that basically makes him either a Vulcan or a Romulan. And I would be highly dubious that he’s a Vulcan. He just does not look very logical in this picture. So draw your own conclusion.”

What is the setting for this photo? “This is the bridge of his vessel, which I will not name here.”

What’s with all the wires, tubing and duct work? “This is sort of the design of the ship. I would say that this is a very specific kind of ship – what it was constructed to do. And as a result of the kind of ship that it is, they are not very interested in the kind of Martha Stewart applications of making it pretty. You see a lot of exposed wires and ducting but it’s not like they’re having people over for tea. It’s a functioning, working ship as opposed to a Starfleet vessel, which has to be shinier because they’re ambassadors to the galaxy.”

Tell us more about Nero’s tattoos. Nero’s tattoos are unique to him and everybody on his crew has similar tattoos in that they’re covering their face but no two are the same.

Is that a weapon Nero holds in his left hand? “The word in Romulan roughly translates to ‘spork.’ Yes, it is a weapon.”

Nero’s crew had previously been described as “pirates.” Accurate? I think that perhaps they look like pirates in a way that they are tattooed and don’t wear uniforms but in my own brain, I look at pirates as people who kinda hang around and they rob other ships and they’re more interested in booty, plunder and pillaging and those sorts of things. Especially since the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies, they’re sort of a fun-loving drinking lot. None of those things would describe this particular group of non-Vulcans. These guys have a very specific mission. They’re not interested in material wealth. They’re interested in something else entirely.

This does not appear to be typically Romulan. Is it fair to say they’re a rogue outfit? Yes, I think “rogue” would be a good way of describing them.

Is this ship of Nero’s actual construction or CGI rendered? I can tell you that a very significant piece of this shot is 100% set. But in terms of lighting effects – those green beams behind him – I would not be willing to say 100% that ILM didn’t add some light rays in there. Although that could just be set lighting. I suspect that this is an actual set shot and not ILM.
