Michael Giacchino’s LOST Season 6 soundtrack is now available on Amazon and iTunes. The two-CD album includes tracks from the first 13 episodes of the final season and two bonus tracks from the finale, so I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future Varese Sarabande Records decides to release a new album featuring the score for “The Candidate”, “Across The Sea”, “What The Died For” and “The End”.

Congratulations to LOST editors Stephen Semel, Mark J. Goldman, Christopher Nelson and Henk Van Eeghan for winning this year’s Emmy award for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Drama Series. UPDATE: it looks like we’re gonna have to wait a bit longer to get our hands on the soundtrack. Giacchino’s score for LOST’s final season is now set to be released on September 14th.

According to Amazon.com, the soundtrack for LOST’s final season will be released on the same day as the LOST DVD and Blu-ray sets: Tuesday, August 24th.

LOST composer Michael Giacchino was invited again this year to Ubeda’s Film Music Festival (click here to watch last year’s performance). This time, the orchestra and chorus conducted by Giachinno performed the score for The End‘s opening and closing scenes.

It seems Michael has cut his post-Lost break short and is back writing already. Recently he scored the pilot episode to J.J. Abrams’ new sexy-spy-espionage show, Undercovers, and he’s also on musical duties for Matt (Cloverfield) Reeves’ new vampire/horror/romance movie Let Me In.

Undercovers will air in autumn (it’s unknown yet if Michael will continue to be involved past the pilot), and Let Me In is due out on 1st October.

This is the first of more LOST piano performances by me to come. It spans a few different themes found mostly in season 1.
The first bit is similar to “Navel Gazing” on the soundtrack. After that comes a bit of the “Hollywood and Vines” theme, and the second half of the performance is based off “Hurley’s Handouts” from the season 2 soundtrack.

This is the second of a set of LOST piano performances by me. It focuses on Locke’s themes, including also the Life and Death theme, Jacob’s theme, and a little quick iteration of the bomb theme.

The first section takes us back to the Season 1 days of hunter-Locke. Going chronologically in the show, what follows is the heartfelt but tragically pathetic Locke theme. Moving through the seasons, I return to the season 4 version of the hunter theme, which is a little more intense. However, if you follow the show you know what comes next, and so I move into the Life and Death theme. Finally, the creepily beautiful “Jacob’s Theme” ends the performance.

Performed by me, by ear (like all of these), this is the third part of my LOST themes on piano. I focus more on the themes found in season 3, starting with Hurley’s fun theme. I move into the action theme found in season 3 (such as in the piece “Russhin’ the Russian”). After that comes the two parts of Ben’s theme – first the conniving, evil, and above all diabolical Ben theme, and then the sadder more personal theme. Finally, I end off with a rendition of one of my favourite songs on LOST, “Ocean’s Apart” (season 3).

The fourth part in the set is a little shorter. I start with Desmond’s theme. Then I move into Eloise Hawking’s theme (from Season 5), and finally Sawyer and Juliet’s theme (from Season 5).

This time I only play two themes, but they’re two excellent, and kind of parallel themes. The first piece is a season 4 theme, heard most prominently as the Oceanic 6 leave the airplane in the finale (soundtrack: “There’s No Place Like Home”).
I transition into the new theme from the episode “LA X”, which plays as the plane lands and our favourite ‘Losties’ leave the plane arriving in LA.

I went about it a bit differently this time. I played only one theme – Claire and/or Kate’s new season 6 theme – and improvised on it.
Hopefully I didn’t wander around the piano too much!

I focused on themes related to the latest Lost episode, “Sundown”. I start with the Sayid/Nadia theme from season 4, which moves into a quick version of the ‘adventure’ theme. From there I slyyyly move into one of my favourite new themes form Season 6, that being the slower Temple theme.
Then I switch focus to Claire, because she’s all kinds of crazy (awesome). First comes the Claire theme from way back in season 1, based off of the track “We’re Friends”.
…Unfortunately, it seems her friends now consist of her dead father, evil incarnate, and squirrel baby.
Next up comes a bit of “Catch a Falling Star”, which transitions into the most amazing, creepy, and ominous Catch a Falling Star, based on the end of “Sundown”.
Finally, I end off with the same piece “Sundown” does – I think it’s the MIB/Smokey theme but I’m not positive. Whatever it is, it’s awesome

Part 8 is here! After such a fantastic episode of Lost, I was driven to the piano. Listen up for Richard’s theme, Sun and Jin’s theme (as heard in “Pagoda of Shame” from the Season 3 soundtrack), and Hurley’s “Mess it All Up” (season 2) theme.
Of course, to relate it to the episode “Ab Aeterno” I couldn’t go without a bit of the Man in Black’s theme and Jacob’s theme! I decided to make both equally dark, because Jacob himself doesn’t seem to be all that great a guy either.
