Team Darlton: “We’re Not Playing It Safe in the Final Season”

Via TV Guide:
Prepare yourself, the sixth and final season of Lost is approaching. Obviously, executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have been very tight-lipped about the fate of the Losties after the explosion at the hatch, but they did find time to tease just a few tidbits at Tuesday night’s unveiling of the 16th and final poster in the damoncarltonandapolarbear.comcollection. (Said poster holds a few clues itself, but we’re still working on that.) In the meantime, Lindelof and Cuse tell TVGuide.com which is their favorite poster, how they feel heading into the final season and what fans should expect when the show premieres on Feb. 2 (9/8c on ABC).
TVGuide.com: With the final season of Lost approaching, what are you feeling?
Carlton Cuse: I think we’re doing something new in this final season narratively, so we have that combination of fear and giddiness. The fear is, oh, what if people don’t like it, what if the audience doesn’t like what we’re doing? The giddiness is, like, we always feel like we have to be bold with our show and if it works, and if people like it as much as we do, we feel like the final season will be a success. When there’s a draw though, we stand by our decisions. We’re not playing it safe in the final season.
Damon Lindelof: I think at this point, the nervousness is more based on how we’re so deep into this season, that by the time the audience sees it, we’re committed to our path. It’s been like that ever since we started premiering in January and February. It’s like it’s too late to turn back now. We’re feeling very confident about executing what our plan was, and that’s all you can ever do.TVGuide.com: What do you say to fans with such high expectations for your last season?
Cuse: I think it’s like anything in life. I think that you have to have realistic expectations. We’re going to do our best version of the show, but there’s still going to be some mystery and magic and intentionally ambiguous things that emerge at the end of the show. We’re going to answer questions, but at the same time, we’re going to tell the story the way we want to tell it. We feel like, all we can do is make the version of the show that makes Damon and I happy. If we do that, hopefully enough people will like it.
Lindelof: Ditto.
TVGuide.com: How do you feel about the intense fan reaction to the posters?
Lindelof: It’s amazing. We experienced this on a much grander scale at Comic-Con, but there’s a thousand other things down there. The fact that this is just a Lost event and has this level of enthusiasm, with this fan turn-out, it’s a little bit shocking to us.
Cuse: I think one of the unique things about Lost is that you not only have fans of this show, but the fans themselves form a community that transcends the show. I was in the middle of talking to a fan out front and the fan all of a sudden gasped and ran off to hug someone. She came back and said, “Excuse me, this is a person I’ve known online and have never met in person before.” This is not just an event about coming here to see the Lost art, for a lot of fans, it’s a chance to meet one another.TVGuide.com: We hear there are some little hints in the final poster. What should fans take away from viewing this?
Cuse: I think you should look in there and there will be a couple of clues to the final season that are embedded in that poster. It will make a lot of sense once you’ve actually seen a few episodes of the show.
Lindelof: You should look at the poster and think of the things you’ve seen on the show, and then whatever else is left, that’s a clue for Season 6.TVGuide.com: Did you guys have a say in what was put into the posters?
Cuse: Only in the last one in terms of embedding a couple of clues in it, but obviously, [Jensen Karp] was responsible for putting the show together, along with Sam Thomas and Noreen O’Toole, who work in the Lost offices. We’re just blown away by the artistry and the imagination of all the artists and what they brought to the table.
Lindelof: As every poster came in, we probably experienced what it’s like for a fan to watch an episode of Lost. You’ve never seen it, you don’t know what to expect, it’s cool. You have to look at it for five minutes and then look at it again to truly appreciate it. The idea that Jensen basically introduced us to the artists’ work before we actually saw what they were going to do with our show, and the way they interpreted it was just amazing. I just don’t have enough wall space in my house for every single one of these posters.TVGuide.com: Do you guys have a favorite out of these posters?
Cuse: If you were to twist my arm, I’d say that the Locke poster is my favorite. If the gallery caught fire all of a sudden, I would grab that and run.
Lindelof: I’m a big fan of the hatch poster. I feel when you look at the intricacies that are going on below every level of the art, there’s something else there on every level. That, I feel, really encapsulates the spirit of the show. I think it’s beautiful to look at too.

The hatch poster is here: http://runsaverytightoperation.com/dcpb/VIII/

Some pretty neat things in that poster.
1. Hurley is holding a torch with the ankh symbol on it.
2. The “O” in LOST is circling the virgin Mary Statue.
3. There are hieroglyphs in the sky above Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Locke.
4. Vincent is in the poster, but no other guest regulars are in the poster (Libby, Miles, Charlotte, Lapidus, Penny, etc..)
5. The colors on the characters might have a meaning but I do not know. Most are in blue, some are just gray. Some of the characters also have blue in their eyes.
6. Anyone know who that guy at the bottom right is? It looks like Ben.
7. The Black Smoke looks like its about to attack Locke and Jack.

things peeps mighta missed: polar bear bottom left; the man bottom right (its not Jack cus he is next to the plane); the fact that Jack is the only person near the plane; the thingy i cant make out right above him; the four toed statue top left; the ankh in the fire just next to it; the fact that Hurley, of all people, is the one holding said flame; desmond or the other guy who saved him bottom left; the heiroglyphs in the sky; the 2 (or 3) smoke monster on opposite sides at the top; the virgin mary statue in the “O; amd finally, everyone has a said or emotionless expression. id love to hear from everyone else about what else they can find that takes a 5th or 6th look to see

OOOO YE woops 4got to write in my other comment. all dharma symbols are at the bottom, some we'venever seen b4.

About the smoke monster.
To left there are three heads, and to the right you can only one (and maybe another below).
That should mean there are more than 3 heads? More than one smoke monster maybe?
And, is this the poster they are talking about? lol

Oh and about Hurley holding the ankh-flame.
The ankh is a symbol of life, that may be related with hurley's power to speak with dead people, cause like Miles said, once the person is dead the brain dies, so they shouldn't make new memories or “interact” in anyway with the medium. But that's what Hurley does, maybe he has some kind of revival power?

wow this is so cool. so i see the monster at the top….i think the guy who ur all talking about at the bottom right cud b ethan bc he was already at the crash site…so it might be him. also one thing no one noticed is jacobs place of residence the 4 toed statue in the back near jack…is sayid in it twice, once by himself and the other holding shannos? if not who is that? the hurley torch is strange…also the countdown from 108 from the hatch is near the top right…idk just a bunch of unclear strange things here…and vincent…really?
December 17th, 2009 at 6:33 am
The only thing that is strange for me is that they draw Sayid and Shannon twice. One where they're just posing seperated, the other when Sayid is carrying Shannon's body. They should have used that space to draw other characters.
By the way, the dude in the right bottom (who looks like Richard to me) is carrying a shotgun, who we know nobody was carrying it on the day of the crash.

I think what we are supposed to pull out of us is:
Damon said we should look at the poster and think of what we've seen on the show, and what else is left. If you look at everything in the poster, it is everythin that we've seen happen on the show that took place on the island!! nothing, and no one is featured in the poster that took place off the island. I think this is was Damon meant.

why do some of the charecters have blue strikes in there hair like kate, charlie and ben
December 17th, 2009 at 9:45 am
you know how in the original pilot for the show how jack was suppose to die, in the first episode, well what if he did die and he got shapeshifted or something like locke
December 17th, 2009 at 9:45 am
jack could have been jacob the whole time
December 17th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
I think that besides of the things that some people said, the fact of Sayid and Shannon appearing two times is strange. Also, i can't see who are the people just above the guy in the right bottom (who i think is Richard). One seems to be Locke, but i don't know who the others are.
The Oceanic logo seems to be upside down.
And finally: every person that we can see on the poster is from the plane, or from the island, i mean that everyone was there at the time of the plane crash, except for Daniel, who is there.

anyone notice the two boats at the bottom in the water?
December 17th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
Guys, In upper left, in the clouds in the sky.
There is a shape of a plane, and has something red in it's tail…
December 17th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Sorry, I meant upper right
December 18th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
we haven´t seen the black rock floating in the water, except for 2 seconds in the season finale…
December 19th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
I think the clue might just be the new Dharma symbols. The ones we haven't seen yet.
December 20th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
I know that everyone's mentioned the repeat of Shannon and Sayid, but Jack is also shown twice: once at the top, and then walking away from the crash.
The new Dharma symbols, along with the Mysteries of the Universe series, indicate that there's way more to the DI than we thought. Maybe we'll find more stations in Season 6.
Also, what is the shack-looking thing at Ben's waist on the beach? And Smokey shows up a number of times. In fact, he's close to Ben, Shannon, Sayid, Sun, Echo, Jack and Kelvin.
I think the O from LOST is an indication not of the Virgin Mary, but of a Savior. It's not actually Mary in the middle of the O, but Who she is holding.
Also, is the theme of the poster is how/why each of them came to the island?
January 15th, 2010 at 4:03 am
could bottom right be freighter guy? I also see the smoke monster throughout the poster, not just top corners.. Look @ Sayid's shoulder and between Claire and Sun.. Also, I can see some of the smoke monster in front of Ben.. Smoke monster seems to be spread out throughout the poster in some of the gaps (see near Hurley's hand and left of Eko)
The O in Lost looks like it has an “i” on it, the T in Lost looks like it has an “F” in it. (probably nothing but I figured I'd mention it just in case)
Someone is on the boat/raft (with a black shirt), 2-4 standing on the island (I think) on the right above guy with gun (bottom right).
Pile of rocks on the right under the T looks like it has 2 sticks tied together like a cross, kinda like in the “LOST SUPPER” promo.
2 people seen near the plane, one in white, one in a black suit (Jack?)
4 red “flags/flames”
Ben and Walt have lines on forehead (not sure if intentional or just part of poster)
16 Dharma Logos.
I see alot of “marks” on the foreheads and on the right cheek of some of them.. Not sure if relevant but interesting that there's so many repeats of that.
kinda looks like a plane in the top right cloud but it could be my overactive imagination. lol
January 15th, 2010 at 4:11 am
Darn, wish I could see what you see.. i only see one boat.. Looks like the raft they had built to me. It does look like someone is on the raft, though.
