For the consequences in the show, I think we just have to pretend that Ben said “1970″ and we’ll just sit and enjoy the show. I know that time and numbers are a REALLY important part of the show but we know it was a mistake from the producers! There’s no reason for them to “fix” this by changing the plot line.

That’s all I have to say.

Thats funny, cause didn’t the writers say that it was Rebecca’s fault in public? Couldn’t they have called her or better yet left her out of it? Why would she need to give them a personal phone call, when they were the one’s lying and saying she was the cause of the mix up.

Just saying, you really can’t say that she should’ve handled it “better” if she is just defending herself from a problem that she shouldn’t not have been involved with the the first place.

ALSO, The writers would not have said anything if they didn’t get caught. Writer’s fault, not hers.

Rebecca could have handled this in a more mature way. A personal phone call or email would have been a GREAT way to fix this problem, not going out in public and *itching about it.

A show so focused on numbers can’t screw one up so nonchalantly.

“Who cares about them making a mistake” is right, but at least have the balls or brains to either admit to it at the beginning or tie it to the show, not blame it on the actress!

How is she going overboard? If someone blamed you for something you didn’t do in public without you being there to defend yourself, would you get pissed?

Rebecca did go a little overboard on this one though.

Why does it HAVE to mean something and why do they HAVE to fix it? Seriously. Can we get a grip?

First of all I realize where I am. I’ve been surfing LOST pages for years now. Second of all, I wasn’t trying to be mean. It was supposed to be jokingly said so calm down. And third of all, I listen to EVERY podcast and read a ton of interviews. If you listen to what the producers and writers say and how they say it you would understand that they don’t put as much detail into the show as we all think they do. Yes there is much more detail than the average show but a lot of things are very unintentional and even they are very surprised by what sort of things fans pick from the show. Things that were never even intended to be dissected.

When I first read that there was a date discrepancy with Charlotte’s birthday and her being alive in 1974 I immediately came to the conclusion that it was a mistake on the writer’s part and blew it off right away because there is a much bigger story to tell that is not concerned with minor gaffs such as this one. I didn’t go wondering about whether or not it is a CLUE or draw some huge theory as to why Ben said 1979 and she is alive in 1974. I knew it was her right off the bat. It was so obvious that the writers intended us to know that was Charlotte. I’m simply saying sometimes we should just sit back and enjoy the show instead of letting minor mistakes (that will happen with a show so rich in plot) such as this eat away at our thoughts and time.

Although I agree about not nitpicking everything, Lost is a show about every single detail, minor or major.

For such smart writers, thats pretty stupid to say. Think about it, they had to sit down, realize that they screwed up the story just a little bit, then decided that the BEST possible explanation is to say it was Rebecca’s fault….DUMB.

Also for those of you saying she went overboard, I’ve seen her on talk shows and behind the scenes stuff on set, and she really seems to genuinely like doing Lost. Then to have this happen straight from the creators….

As for the faulty assumptions, that’s a little irritating, especially since I like Darlton so much. I hate it when some people are so confident about things they’re not sure of (I have family members like that). But they owned up to it fully. And during the actual podcast, they were glib about Mader, but I don’t think they were maliciously trying to put the blame on her – it seemed to me that they were just explaining that a mistake was made somewhere along the line, and even then they admitted they ultimately signed off on it. Just hope it doesn’t happen again.

I bet they will find a way to deal with this. Presumably they’ll have a flashback in which they explain what happened with Faraday. They could insert a newly-filmed scene with Sawyer (who was present when Ben recited Charlotte’s stats) in which he mentions that Ben said she wasn’t born for a couple years. The explanation then could be either that (a) Ben was mistaken, or (b) his information was in error, perhaps because Charlotte’s mother falsified a British birth certificate.
