But after reading so many recaps/analysis of the finale, I've started to see that the sideways storylines were necessary for “The End” of LOST. Definitely the most emotional finale ever! It is fail on all narrative levels. The episode served as a farewell then a true resolution of story. There are so many ridiculous plot elements such as Shannon & Sayid's soul-bound relationship and “Aaron's rebith even though every1 is dead but hes born now but he's a baby and not in the adult form he would have lived most of his life with Claire/Kate but don;t worry about that just listen to Giacchino's score and tear up”.
It was sloppy, sophomoric filth to a show that deserved better. Also the overt spiritual nature contradicts the subtle ways that show handled the conflict between faith/scepticism during the show. I found it moving yet completely unfaithful to show when it aired and still I feel it failed the previous 5 seasons. This is not anger based on unresolved mysteries but on the fact that much of the 6th season was wasted on gimmicks simply for the sake of surprise rather than any narrative purpose. I swore I would stop commenting on the finale and let go and move on, but I just can't help myself. The flash-sideways was built upon 6 years of character development in a profound way I thought, it was very complex story telling. Jack's father's coffin going missing represented his lack of closure and never being able to bury him. Daniel created a world where his plan to reset the past/future worked and he saved Charlotte. Eloise never killed her son and let him be a musician. Desmond pleased Penny's father. Jin and Sun never got married and thus they never took each other for granted but still continued to battle her father. Charlie couldn't get over his drug addiction, Sayid battled his inner demons but dreamed of a world where he let go of Nadia to keep her safe. Kate was still a fugitive but she was innocent. Sawyer helped people instead of conning them. Hurley was lucky and therefore not responsible (in his mind) for other people's death. These stories build upon not only character development throughout six seasons but also themes such as letting go, redemption, sacrifice, what's done is done, etc. I thought it was awesome. As for the 'afterlife' I think it made the island and Jack's sacrifice high-stakes. If the light went out then this passage way from the one world to another would not have been possible. I don't think it was simplistic at all.

It wasn't a simplistic ending, it was quite complex and ambiguous- what Lost is all about! They have been planning this series since they got the end date 3 years ago. This is exactly how they wanted to end it and I'm glad they did end it this way.
The fact you shrug off the meaning of the ending like it was nothing proves you didn't really get what the writers were trying to say with it. There was so much symbolism, character resolution AND answers (people are forgetting, Jack saved the world and the island by killing the man in black) so we do know the big answers like “What is the purpose of the island?” and “what are MIB's motives?” etc etc. They're not going to spell it out because it wouldn't be good tv.

I agree with your criticism over Sayid/Shannon, but maybe he realized he couldn't ever be with Nadia. In the purgatory sideways that THEY created, she was his sister-in-law. He could have had her if he wanted.
These are really strong words for a fan who claims to like the show. Aaron's rebirth was just a tool for Kate to let go. He doesn't exist in the Purgatory; in fact, no one does, so I don't see the problem with it. Are you really judging the possibility of Aaron being a newborn, or the continuity between the character's ages? There aren't rules to this Sideways.
I agree that the spiritual nature contradicts the subtle agnostic questioning of the show, yet it was included in the finale to answer the question of science vs. faith. As Season 6 Jack finally believes that there is a purpose to the island, he becomes the man of faith that John Locke wanted him to be. The resolution to the characters after death is a testament to Jack's transition.
As for surprise rather than narrative purpose, I feel like your argument is unjustified. Darlton wrapped up the show in the way they saw fit. Sawyer and Kate's crew left the island with closure, and Claire gets to raise Aaron. Ben found his fit on the island; Hugo became important for once; and Jack died for his cause. In island time, the character arcs all completed. Therefore, 5 seasons and part of the 6th resolved maturely.
The only gimmick was the resolve to the Sideways. I agree that it was based on surprise, but I can't see how you would connect this ending to a waste of 6 seasons. Maybe the series would have ended better if the Sideways were something else. I feel like it's hard to argue that the on-island resolution wasn't satisfying. As for the Purgatory, Darlton took a risk, which is completely in their style. I'm sorry you fell on the side of people who didn't like that choice, but you should respect that this ending fits well with who Darlton is/are.

I agree with you that art has many levels that can appeal to different people. But Darlton always had one ending and one purpose for LOST. I'm upset with people who dismiss the ending as a cop out because they still don't know why a bird sounded like it said Hurley's name. I never meant to recycle any argument, I just feel if you see LOST the way Darlton had intended, you'd change your mind.
I also don't agree with the end being simple. For the first three seasons, half of every episode was dedicated to the back story of a certain character, showing the mistakes the made or the struggles they went through. The purgatory stories were a way for these characters to redeem themselves.

It's been a week and I've watched the finale at least 3 times and everytime I see something new and I'm just amazed by how much I loved the way the show ended. Nothing gets me more than watching VIncent (Pono) come up and lay down next to Jack as he dies at the end of the show. The really hit a home run with that scene and the flashing back and forth from the bamboo jungle to the church as Jack walks and greets everyone and eventually sits down with Kate as he falls down in the bamboo jungle. I don't know man, I feel like you're taking a little too far by calling it filth and saying it fails on all narrative levels. While it may not have answered all the questions we had, how could it have possibly done that? We would just be getting answers that were similar to the explanation behind the whispers: cool, relevant… but not emotionally impactful. And I don't totally side with everyone who says that Lost was all about character because I feel like it was about both character and plot. But, looking back, I think that character is slightly more important than plot, even though the time travel and mysteries are what drew me to the show in the first place. I guess in the end you see this finale differently, depending on how you see the show and what you expect from it. In that way, no ones really wrong… but I don't think it was sloppy, sophomoric filth in any way though.

The first time I saw the big reveal to the flash-sideways, I said to myself “'Passengers' definitely ruined the impact of the show to me.” But after a couple of days later, I accepted it with understanding. I did the thing this show's been telling us from this season's first episode and that is to just 'let go'. I know Christian said that first a few seasons ago, but it never rang true as it did during 'The End'. That to me is the greatest gift this show has given me. The reason that it left me cold during the first time was because that week was also the week where everything I thought would happen and would be just flew out of the window. But the more I thought of it, the more I was convinced that this is truly what is happening now and I've got nothing left to do but accept it because it might be for a good reason. Nothing in my nineteen years of existence here on earth has contributed this much on my understanding of people, literature, and life itself. I'll never forget how beautiful it is to think about that I found this show during that same time that I was LOST. Nothing is ever wrong or right, only the things that move you forward and grow. That's something I was trying to articulate during my understanding of how people are and someone wrote that in their coloumn here, I think. To all those people who took the time to understand the meaning of the show beyond what is presented on screen, I am truly grateful. To each his own, then. First of all the Shannon/Sayid thing was one of the best parts of the show that it decided to take – it showed how much Sayid had changed – he had let go of Nadia and chocsen the person who picked him knowing what he had done and was capable of. Shannon was the person who truly trusted him who didn't play games with him and left it up to sayid – Nadia was the girl that he always wanted and became blind because of it – once he lost her he felt it was his fault and didn't want to lose her because she was all he had at the time – but shannon was hte person who did't care abotu his past and was there when he finally let go – the first person he trusted and truly trusted him back
As for the Aaron thing I don't understand why mroe people didn't get this – not everyone who were in that reality were their true selves – keamy was a false obstacle created from their memories when they created the world along with Nadia created from Sayid's mind – Aaron wasn't there and neither was Ji Yeon they were just there as clues to help each character remember just like Jack's son David didn't exist but was created to help Jack let go of his daddy issues and for Juliet to realise and have the good family she truly wanted – not everyone in that world was actually there some where just projections created by the characters who made it while some characters didn't decide to be apart of it (Richard Alpert ect…) or probably weren't told about it so didn't know (Walt ect…) for others the island wasn't the most important time of their lives (Aaron) and for others they were whispers unable to leave the island (Michael/Eko ect..)

hmm one week later and i thibk i can say with total confidence that the finale was exactly what it needed to be. that final sequence of jack dying in the bamboo grove was so amazing. i refrained from getting emotional the first time around becuase i was too excited about how it was all gonna end, but the more and more i watch it, the more i realize how incredible it was. not only is matthew fox a truly incredible actor (and we've seen some pretty awesome acting skills throughout LOST) but how else could we expect this story to end. what i saw happen in that finale sums up my reasons for ever having gotten into LOST in the first place. we saw magic, truly. these characters brought full circle what LOST was always about. it was about the story of complete strangers who happened to crash land on an island of mystery where the most spectacular things can happen. john locke had it right all along, this was a place of miracles, and the finale showed that the other characters, as well as the viewers, came to fully understand the gravity of that statement. thankyou LOST. i never knew TV could be like this.

I think Matthew Fox deserves an emmy for his performance this season. Particularly in the finale he surprised me with his brilliant acting range. He always gets snubbed at the Emmy's, and I think this time he should win best actor in a television series.

Personally, I thought the finale was so great that it made me not even think about all of the unanswered questions that were left behind.
But I definitely can understand why people would be frustrated by the lack of answers. LOST has always been great at building up exciting mysteries, but later on it seems like the writers regret ever bringing them up and pretend like they were never supposed to be important. It's not fair to tell people, “this show is supposed to be about the characters!”; people watch the show for different reasons. For me, I was sucked into LOST because of the mystery and I stayed for the characters. But just because the character stories are so great doesn't mean one has to ignore sloppy story telling in other areas.
Basically, I loved the finale and all six seasons and I'm not one of those people who are fretting over all of the unanswered questions, but I can sympathize with those who were unsatisfied and I don't like to see people repeating over and over again “you didn't like it because you didn't understand it”, or “that's not what the show is about!” Ugh.

Ugh, I hate that video. Half of the things brought up in it aren't even mysteries or they were answered. “What's with the polar bear in Walt's comic?” Are you kidding me? That person thinks that's a mystery. Give me a break.

All these characters are looking back at their lives with penitence for mistakes made. Ben receives forgiveness from John Locke and ends the tensions between them. That is what a resolution is.

I'm sorry to tell you that the show isn't based on the things that you liked about it. The exciting plot was a really great part of it, yet the things that the writers knew from the beginning weren't answers like why there's a polar bear on the island. They knew who the characters were and how they wanted them to change over the course of the show. They knew Jack would turn from a man of science to a man of faith and die for the island when they were writing the first episodes of season 1.
If you still want some answers to plot questions, there's going to be some bonus footage on the season 6 DVD just showing answers.

A week passed now and I feel I got over my initial anger and my intense frustration. So now I belive I can explain with more credibility why I am still so massively disappointed.
Let's think back. Season 3. They told the audience that they were inspired by J.K. Rowling who announced she knew the ending of Harry Potter, even though there were still a number of books to be published. This idea inspired the writers to plan the end of LOST. They had, as they continuously said, a plan, they know the ending of LOST. I might have been a fool, but my assumption from that point onwards, had been that they actually were planning the finale (in Season 6) already in Seasons 3-6. In that way I started looking at mysteries they presented and puzzling moments they created with a rather specific focus. I believed all this time that there would be a huge revelation and they were planning it in a pedantic way, preparing the grand finale. When there were the typical LOST moments (Jon Locke is dead, lying in the coffin, when we say the statue for the first time, when Ilana was introduced, the temple and its fountain, when we saw the heart of the island I kept looking for the one thing that keeps all of it together, since, as I presumed all time long, they were planning the finale for years.
After last weeks finale event, however, I must still say, there are uncountable things that do disturb me a lot. Either did they not manage to answer important bits if the core story line because they did not have the time and had to rush things, or, however, it happened because they painted themselves in the corner coming up with so many mysteries that they no longer saw a way answering all of that and chose to focus on the charaters.
To be honest, one week ago I was really angry. At the moment I'm somewhat calmer. However, whichever it is, it remains a fact that the last episode was not what I expected. As I explained above, I kept watching LOST looking for the things that proves the audience (especially those fans claiming they were making everything up while writing LOST, who, by the way, I kept criticizing for their lack of faith in LOST!) that they actually had a plan and that they knew all this time where they were heading.
What I really did miss in this finale was exactly this proof. I still cannot belivee that this was actually IT! Was this what they were talking about for years now? The one theory, that some fans had already back in Season 1? They are all in purgatory? Well, of course they weren't on the island, and the island is not purgatory. But the light or energy force on the island enabled them to get to purgatory. This, for me, is still a bit ridiculous, since the creators so many times denied this purgatory idea.
On a second level I really did miss some answers which I expected them to come up with. If we just look at Season 6 and forget about Seasons 1-5 for a moment, then what really keeps annoying me is this: In season 6 they came up with so many new mysteries (e.g. the temple's “fountain”, Dogen's history, Illana's relationship with Jacob, Sayid dying and being zombie-like resurrected, Claire's and Sayid's darkness, Jacob's and MIB fake mother, the heart of the island) but they actually chose not to come back to any of these in the finale. Which left my with the BIG question: Why did they choose to “waste” LOST time with new questions, if they knew they would not even get close to the idea of actually answering any of these? Were these moments simply time-fillers, making certain moments of LOST interesting, but there was no plan behind it?
Thirdly (and lastly) what made Season 6 rather weak (in hindsight): There were some clear 180 degree turnarounds that made the whole show untrustworthy: Sayid was a torturer. Then he leaves the island to to his great love Nadia. Nadia dies and Sayid is hired by Ben to be a murderer again (we never got the answer of why he became a murderer not to mention who it was he had to kill), after which he leaves Ben to go building houses somewhere nice. he then is sent back to the island where he dies. But he resurrects. he then feels a darkness growing. He loses his emotions, can't feel anything (connection to the MIB??). However, at the very end, he has enough emotions again (courage?) to take full responsibility and have himself killed in order to save everyone else.
Desmond: He was said to be really special. Survived an electromagnetic implosion in the hatch and survived Widmore's test. He was supposed to be the fail-safe option if all candidates should die. It was clear that Desmond had something to do with the heart of the island (=electromagnetic light). However, after having pulled out th plug, it was suddenly Jack who had to finish the job that Desmond (despite the fact that it was always him with the superpowers) could not finish. So Jack goes down there and puts the plug back in. Remember: The MIB became Smoky after about 2 seconds, right after having entered the cave. yet MIB, Jack, Desond, Hurley and Ben could all ebter the cave, and Desmond AND Jack could even touch the plug for seconds, without being killed.
Claire: She was told she needed to raise Aaron on her own. That was left away after a couple of Seasons. She then is lost in the jungle, for reasons that were also left unanswered, and lived in the jungle. She then is seen killing a poor black guy, she is totally distorted, so mad she actually tries to kill Kate. A short while later, however, hugging her and saying sorry again. At the end, the island is on the bring of being destroyed, she does not want to go home, is then convinced by Kate to ge home again and finally enters the plane. A real pitty that they built up so much tension with Claire and then finally such a confusing mess came out.
These were just some examples that left me with the question: Did they actually and surely knew 100 percent where they were heading? Or is the reason they left after that the finale had aired that they did not want to be made responsible for the mess they left the mystery-fans with?
To me seasons 6 destroyed and demystifies a great deal of the complete series of LOST…

I think those are all very reasonable complaints. I would agree that season 6 in it's entirety was quite a bit weaker than any of the other seasons, but I still think the finale was one of the best episodes of the entire series.

In a way yes because the “big” mystery was resolved. However, if we think about it, all they really did was take a huge time-jump for some characters and simply say: Well, whenever they die, they meet again in their after-lives. But what most people seem to forget over all the tears the finale brought with itself: LOST was from start clearly a mysterie series. In that way the finale dealt with 50 percent of what LOST is and delivered an admittedly nice ending. However, on the mystery-level (and half of all LOST fans tuned in for the mysteriousness of the island) they simply went the easiest way, omitting all the connection that probably were never there.
I don't criticize any fan enjoying the finale. I just criticize the ones who now pretend LOST would have been a character show from the very beginning. This is ridiculous. LOST has never been a character drama show only, it was from Season 1 onwards about some people's mysterious happenings on a mysterious island…

Regardless of their regret over their lives, you should focus on what they were not what they wished themselves to be. But I guess wishing for one thing and doing another is typical of the christian nation so I guess I'm in the wrong place looking for narrative consistency.

In coherent narratives characters are not exclusive from plot. They become intertwined and inseparable. The fact that the finale was nothing but a vapid farewell/reunion in a narcissistic tribute to fans shows how drifted the show came from structured storytelling.

I criticize those who attack any who dare to criticize the finale — under the false assumption that we were only looking for one thing. I wasn't. I felt that the finale failed in multiple areas — including how the characters were handled. I think certain True Believers here already have ( or soon will ) convince themselves that this was the ending that they wanted all along. If they keep rationalizing every aspect of the finale, they'll believe that it concluded in the best possible way. They want us to re-watch the finale until we change our minds. I want them to re-watch the earlier seasons and be objective about what was presented and stressed –i.e., intentionally set up as being significant to the story and the characters involved. The show wasn't “just about” or “only about” any one thing. Watch the scene in the church (not from this season) when it's revealed to Jack that Claire's his sister — then tell me why that was set up, why was it revealed so dramatically — and then why it ultimately had no meaning whatsoever. If someone says — “Oh, it was just a coincidence. Who cares? It doesn't matter b/c the show was about these characters.”, I'll throw up. How do you separate plot from character? Actors from their actions? You can't.

This isn't a religious debate, this about reflecting on a show we all enjoyed and a finale that we reacted to in different ways. Insulting a certain religion is probably the wrong way to go… it might even be, using one of your favorite words, a “fail.”
That being said, the concept of reflecting on one's life before moving on to the afterlife is totally not limited to the Christian idea of purgatory. The idea of letting go and embracing change is a major part of many world religions and even non-religious philosophies. In a way, it's not so much about religion as it is about human nature and life in general.

What did Jack die for? Who did he love that he'd die for them? Did he love “his destiny” and died for “his destiny”? He killed Smokey, who Dogen said was evil incarnate but didn't smokey just want to get off the island and live as a man? How could evil take over the world when smokey was dead (evil incarnate), wouldn't the island just fall into the sea? I guess I'm just disappointed in how S6 turned out. I read in the latest “LOST issue” of Entertainment Weekly that, “what it really was, and this is how the show is written to this day: Every conversation started with the phrase, “Wouldn't it be cool if…” and if the answer was “Yes,” we did it. – Damon Lindelof P.38 Entertainment Weekly 5.14.10 So there you go. What was the overall message of the show? What did the writers want to get across in their story? It was a good show though, excluding most of S6.

Well said! And this is by the way true for so many, uncountable scenes in LOST. Looking at Seasons 1-5, the writers came up with so many dramatic scenes or new outcomes, always giving the audience the hope they would actually come back to that later in the series (Aaron, The bit Hatch-door with the painting on it, the rules between Ben and Widmore, the phrase “GOD HELP US ALL” if certain things don't happen, Eloise Hawkings special ability (“because I bloody do”: that was all of it? The full explanation?), the bright light, sending some of the Losties back to the 70s and some not, Ilaan relationship with Jacob, Dogen's history and the importance of the magic-well, the sickness(darkness), Sayids and Claire's strange state of being.
After this finale all these things simply cease to be of any importance, they just seem random now, since they have no connection to the “core-story” the producers were obviously focusing on (the characters….).
I think it's interesting that more fans keep criticizing LOST at the moment. I think it is indeed true the producers hopes that as many ans as possible would forget about all the mysteries when watching the finale, unable to think properly crying all the time. However now with more distance to the finale and a clearer head I think many people realize how they were tricked, exactly as Ben was tricked killing Jacob, believing it was the correct thing to do at the moment, only later realizing how stupid that actually was…

They have said that this is the story they wanted to tell, and I believe them. I actually found season 6 to be of a consistently high standard and I actually think a lot of what you are saying is irrelevant.
Sayid may have never “Lost his emotions” after his resurrection, he may well have just been single minded on being with Nadia again but when he realised he had been tricked he decided to redeem himself by sacrifice.
Claire was crazy and needy, she could have easy switched alliances depending on who offered her happiness. I had no problems with this.
I believe they did know where they were heading, since they had so long to plot it out, but to be honest does it really matter? Its a tv show and they just want to make it entertaining for everyone. No other tv shows but Lost have had so much scrutiny from fans.
Desmond was the only one to take the plug out- and the only one capable. All Jack did was put it back in. So Desmond was still the special one.
I think the mysteries you mentioned like the “darkness” etc are better off left unanswered rather than tackled. If they were answered, people would say it wasn't done in the way they wanted. For example, Across the Sea was an answers frenzy but people hated it because it didn't answer things the way THEY wanted.

Whattt… Lost has always been character driven. If it wasn't I wouldn't watch it, cos I don't really like Sci fi or fantasy. The way this series was done though made me enjoy the fantasy aspects, but the main draw for me was the characters. They were all I ever really cared about.

You need to show Damon and Carlton a little respect… they gave us the best tv show ever and you have no idea how hard that is.

Jack died to save his friends, the world (as the end of the island would mean the end of the whole world) and successfully protected the island. That was a great sacrifice.

Yes, as you say, character “driven”, I did never say characters were never important, I understand that from Season 1 onwards a big focus was always on the characters. At the same time, however, LOST was never about character ONLY. There was from start always the element of mysteriousness, and I think it is simply untrue to wash away the fact that there was also mystery. And it is also incorrect to refer to character only, since there was a considerable amount of fans who watched the show for the mystery elemts and some others for the characters. In this way LOST (in my opinion) failed in pleasing everyone. I see that everyone who liked the character bit in LOST is pelased. However, I expected the producers to come up with a minimum of core answers they built up tension with over the last couple of years. It is simply disappointing to see this character-driven resolution which does not respect the mystery elements of the show and therefore annoyed a considerable amount of fans (about a third of all viewers).

This is probably a question of point of view. IN my eyes we were tricked because I had the fact that they knew the end date of LOST in mind and therefore presumed they were inserting some of the mysterious elements with the clear aim in their hedas to resolve them in a clashing finale. Further I still don't understand why they put so many specific mysteries into the show that seemed to belong to the greater picture. The irony after the finale was that it seemed there had never been such a big picture.
And concerning Damon and Calton: I still think LOST is the best TV show ever. I was just disappointed they did not manage to keep the soaring hight of quality the show always seemed to point to towards the finale…

Ok, after a week and two days I am still feeling the loss of LOST. It’s been pretty hard to let go despite the finale’s message (as if Darlton was telling us as an audience to) Remember, Let Go, and Move On. But somehow I’m having trouble letting go.
I’ve actually watched the finale 5 times now (including the enhanced edition last Saturday night) and I feel no different from the first couple times I’ve seen it. This is what I wrote last week but never posted:
“Wow, what an amazing finish to an already epic series. I want to start by mentioning the final five minutes and how I am very happy with how it ended. I am taking the show in as a whole now not just episode by episode because after last night’s “The End” I for one see why it was called that and I can see how everything became full circle, esp. with Jack ending up exactly where he began, lying face up in the bamboo forest. But instead of seeing him be reborn/awakened on the island (with his eye opening), we saw him pass, with Vincent at his side, the Ajiera plane flying overhead, a smile on his face, then our hero’s eyes closed forever. Beautiful ending.
Similar to “Titanic”, they were all the same age as they were during this great event in their lives, even though Desmond, Kate, Claire, Sawyer, Rose and Bernard perhaps lived a longer life and Hurley may have served many, many years as the Island Guardian. Ben, who was not ready to move one, perhaps took over for Hurley when he was ready to leave. The point was is they were all supposed to be together when it was time to move on to the next life, and the “side-ways reality” wasn’t really a reality at all, it was the waiting room. And until they were all awakened and reunited, they could move on together. Christian and Jack’s conversation brought everything into perspective, “Everybody dies sometime, kiddo”, and I think that the togetherness of life, rebirth, redemption, love, and death are what brought all these characters together in the first place and overall what LOST is all about. Not the whole history of the island, not the Dharma Intuitive, not the Others, and not Jacob and Smokey. The characters were the story.”
I go into more from there but it’s basically just sharing thoughts about the finale like how Flocke pointed out Jack being “the obvious choice” as the island protector, it’s if Darlton knew what we were thinking. They never seem to surprise me.
I noticed a lot of people wondering what happened to the children. Aaron, Walt, Ji Yeon, and little Charlie probably grew up to have their own significant experiences with new groups of people and moved on with their soulmates, not their parents. Hope that makes sense.
But seriously I can’t see how anybody could not love this finale. For me I feel as though all my serious questions have been answered and all our beloved LOST characters FOUND redemption in “The End”. So what if we never know who was shooting from the other outrigger or where the Dharma food drops come from? This story is about people, these people who struggled for redemption, hope, and a sense of destiny. I am forever grateful, inspired, and enlightened by LOST. There will never be another one like it.

For those who didn't like the finale I feel sorry for you. I realize you want answers because you were hoping for that WOW moment, however after all the theorizing you weren’t going to get that moment because you would have expected the answers already. Think about it like this: My friends drink coffee every morning because they want that jolt of energy (the equivalent of the WOW moment) to get them through the day. However, after so many years of coffee they no longer get that jolt of energy and they say coffee no longer does anything for them anymore. However, every morning they still want coffee even though they know it won’t be satisfying. That’s like the people who desperately wanted answers even though you don’t even get excited by them anymore (remember the answer to the whispers). Well rather than serve you another cup of unsatisfying coffee, they served a glass of passion fruit juice. They gave us something that was refreshingly sweet and beautiful. For anyone who didn’t enjoy it, you missed out on a great emotional experience.

I think there were too many mysteries added in for no reason. LOST is too complicated to try and get my head around regarding characters motivations. Didn't Jack die because he had nothing else to live for? He was going to commit suicide off the island but the island brought him back to fulfill his destiny to keep the island from sinking. The island did not bring Jack back to save his friends (Kate, Hurley) who were off the island originally? If Jack and Ben didn't go back, Jacob would not have died would he and thus the smoke monster/evil wouldn't have escaped? It doesn't make sense and I'm starting to just give up and move on. It was what it is was…a fictional show that had great mysteries, plot twists, suspense, and edge of your seat entertainment.

They did answer all the big questions though. You are just annoyed that they didn't answer them the way you anticipated. They answered them in the way they wanted to and had planned to from the beginning.

It DID answer the mysteries as well, but at the same time it resolved the characters stories.
We learnt that the island needs to be protected to keep the whole world going, we learnt Jacob and MIB's motives, we learnt what Jack's destiny was, we learnt what the numbers mean, we learnt that the island is and what it does… what more do you want?
I'm confused because I genuinely believe they solved both. They chose to make certain elements of the story ambiguous but open to interpretation, because that is much better than spelling it out word for word.
You say they failed to please everyone, well really. They were never going to do that. No show ever does that, especially if the fans are quite passionate about it, eg the Sopranos. But I do think that if you look at the questions and then look back over the seasons you can work them all out. Some have been explained in a very obvious way too.

This series will NEVER be matched. I will never let go and will never stop watching the episodes. I am already ready to start watching all the seasons over again. I have seen most of the episodes atleast 3-4 times and I still am not sick of them. LOST baby!!!!!!!

No that was pretty good. I myself used to work at Starbucks, so yeah, coffee has no effect on me. So I switched to Tea (Passion Tea is my favorite actually), which is a great escape from coffee. So I totally understand your metaphor.
I think the answers that were given and the unexpected ending to LOST were very satisfying. I am so much happier with having something different that gives us room to debate and imagine. I wish people would stop wanting every answer fed to them, it ruins it. It's so much better to seek the answers out ourselves and come up with our own conclusions. That's what life is all about. There are never any simple explanations, LOST is no different. Which is what makes it brilliant. =)

Hi, I'm french and I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect.. Personally, I was certain since the beginning of the end of Lost. I loved it! But it's true that there are lot of misteries not solved. I would like to be sure I had understood!: In fact, they are all died during the crash, isn't it? And their experience on the island was a “test” before they become aware of their death. So, dharma's project, the alternative reality, the temple, (and lot of things i'm unable to traduce!!) was it real??? Please, explain me!
I think there are several possibilities.. Which one is the true???
