Redemption

Season 6, Videos View Comments

In my humble opinion, this scene from last night’s episode masterfully shows what LOST is all about.

Will Emerson have to make room on his shelf for another Emmy this year?

Emerson really knocks it out of the park with this scene, for me the real emotional hook was the line "I was terrified I was going to lose the only thing that had ever mattered to me, my power." With the delivery and gravitas of that line Emerson really lets you see into Linus' soul for the rest of the scene.

I never wanted to feel anything but hatred and disgust towards Ben in this show. But now I not only do it pity him, I have a sense of hope for his redemption. That really is a testament to the whole Lost creative team, time and time again they've been able to bathe even the darkest characters in light and reveal new perspectives to judge them from. This scene is a strong contender for Lost's finest dramatic scenes, I hope that there are many more scenes of this calibre to come this season.

By that he meant that Locke is the only one that will put up with his company, the only one who would tolerate his presence. He thought everyone else would either exile or kill him. By saying that she would have him, she implied that he was forgiven and was welcome to rejoin them.
  • Well, it's something like "he's the only one that'll have me in his team". Because of all that he's done, Ben thinks that Locke is the only one who will still let him join him.

EXACTLY what I said when I watched not just the scene but the episode overall. THIS is why LOST is the incredible show it is.

This truly was an amazing scene that Emerson pulled off. And what is so great about it is he has fooled us so many times in the past we don't even know weather he is lying or not now. But Ben is a broken character or appears to be compared to the one we saw once before. He was totally humbled. Great perfromance from that man that I wanted to die so bad on the isalnd at one point.

OMG, that was very touching, I kept crying when ben said "because he is the only one that 'll have me"
Micheal Emerson really rocked the episode!
  • What a captivating performance by Emerson.

I've watched that scene 15 times today.... and it still gives me chills. One scene... even one line, starting at 1:43, and Emerson EARNED another Emmy.

Best moment of season 6 so far, maybe even of all time. I was so moved by Ben in this scene, especially when he said "because he's the only one who will have me". I know that in the past Ben has been manipulative and has had always alterior motives, but I think he has really made a permanent change. Now he really is one of the good guys! Outstanding performance by Michael, I am impressed again and again at his talent and versatility.

"Because he's the only one that'll have me"

I've never felt as bad for a character in LOST as I did when he said that. Simply astounding performance by Michael Emerson.

I'd say this scene will go down as one of the best, if not THE best, scene in all of LOST. I completely agree with Eudemonia's comments. The redemption of Ben Linus. WOW.

Last nights LOST was great, I loved the slow-mo ending on the beach and everyone happy, It reminded me of Season 1.

Season 2 actually "The Gathering." It's almost a parallel to that situation, when the tailies come back with some of our survivors.

    Wow...
Don't know if the writers intended this to be another veiled allusion to the Christian view of the human condition, but it certainly was; and not very veiled at all. This is the epitome of contrition and forgiveness. It simply blew me away. As dark and hopeless as last week's temple scene was, this scene was equally epic in it's beauty and depth. Powerful and simply moving. Kudos to the writers, Zuleikha Robinson, and Micheal Emerson! You never cease to amaze.
