Jacob was actually able to see the Losties all of their lives, he was able to take some sort of influence on all of them. He (probably) saw Jack even when he was a child. Now Jack just behaves like a child at the moment. What is it that Jacob was doing? Hurley said that it was intentional, Jacob WANTED Jack to see into the mirror. Why? Becaus Jack is iomportant. I believe that Jacob WANTED him to see the mirror. What is JAck doing now? Staring at the ocean. I believe that Jack must realise that he was wrong (when arguing with old John Locke) that there IS a clear intention. These people were brought to the island for a very specific reason. And the moment when Jack realsies that and understands that it wasn't a mere obervation of a lunativ but something much, much, much bigger will be the moment when he understands a lot more about Jacob and the island. This will be the moment where he works together with Jacob and will be in the group of the “good guys”.

Lastly, what i so unique about LOST – they asked one core question about the series in the very first episode : “Guys, where ware we?” and they are probably going to answer the question in the 2 hour finale of LOST. Now isn't this absolutely breath-taking? The only similar series that had that one question was Twin Peaks. The reason it didn't work was actually because the studios killed off the series by insisting in letting the audience know who killed Laura Palmer. After that, tats was it. About 50% of the audience did no longer tune in for Twin Peaks one week later.
