Started watching Lost on tv at the start of the 4th season, then we had the writers strike, and I caught my little cousin up on it also.
As someone’s already mentioned, it’s a shame I didn’t start watching before then, cause the show has had such an impact on me. Love it to death.
I got through the first 3 seasons on DVD in about a week and a half, that’s how much time I had on my hands and how quickly I got into it. I immediately bought all of the seasons after watching the first, so good thing it didn’t suck.
I’ve never gotten into a show the way I’ve gotten into Lost. The research that an be done and the thought that goes into each episode is amazing to me. And it brings together so many people, also.

Anyway it was during my first philosophy class that my professor started comparing some thing we were talking about in class to LOST. I believe it had something to do with John Locke (the real John Locke by the way). In any case he described it and it actually sounded pretty interesting.
In any case that night (which was a Tuesday I believe) I downloaded the first season. Let’s just say I was very tired the next day during my classes. I didn’t fall asleep until 3am the following day since I caught myself up during this time.
In any case I was instantly addicted and I have spread this affliction to many people since then. On small note, the same professor got me hooked on BSG as well.

I tuned in the first night for one reason only. I was curious why two actors that I was very familiar with from film (Naveen Andrews & Harold Perrineau) where taking part in this new television series. I’m not a huge sci-fi fan (although the original Star Trek is a favorite) but the fact that the two mentioned actors had parts I wanted to know what the draw was for them to leave film and move to television. Well it didn’t take me long to figure that out. The quality of the production was what first hit me. This was big budget. Once the pandemonium of the crash on the beach subsided and we got our first dialogue between Jack and Kate, it was obvious to me that this was not going to be another run-of-the-mill whodunit. There where real characters, there was sin and redemption. There was also this lone character sitting on the beach looking out over the ocean. He had a cut across his right eye and a look on his face that held many secrets. I knew it then that this character would be the focal point of the entire series, in my mind anyway. Then came episode 4 “Walkabout”. Magic! I have been hooked from the premiere episode, never missed a single one. I consider myself to be very fortunate, retired at age 49, two great grandchildren. And yet when Wednesday night comes around it’s all about one thing. My license plate on my vehicle reads LOST 815. I have a room in my house full of LOST memorabilia. When Season 6 ends will television be worth watching anymore? I wonder. I’m sure this show will spark conventions and a following that will put Star Trek to shame for many, many years. Anyway, I owe watching LOST to being a Lord of the Rings fan. I remember watching this show only because Dominic Monahan was in it. I was lucky enough to watch it from the very beginning. I was only watching just to see Dominic in another setting and then the monster showed up.
I’m a huge Jurassic Park fan so I decided to watch the episode until the end. Just to see what it looked like. Because, you know, end of the episode is where they normally reveal the creature lurking in the forest and how the people kill it or whatever. Little did I know. But by the time the episode was over I was intrigued by all the strangeness. When the bear showed up, I was like “Whoa!” this show isn’t afraid to mess with your head. And from then on it just got better and better.
‘Walkabout’ was the episode from where there was no turning back. That scene with Locke just blew me away. For the first time I had Goosebumps and tears and the feeling of WTF, all at the same time. I just love how Lost is so out there and doesn’t apologize for being so bizarre. The opening scene of season 2 is proof to that. I never understood how someone could literally jump off the couch watching TV until that moment. And later when Jack is, for the first time, exploring the Swan, you’d expect some tense scary music but then Mama Cass Music turn on! And it was even freakier!
I have such fond memories of early years of Lost. I’m so looking forward to the last season. I can’t even imagine watching the Series Finale. My head just might explode.

I live in Germany and season one aired on pay TV with a two or three week delay. Back in the day you couldn’t really watch anything online and since I didn’t have pay TV at my place I had to go to my father’s house to watch it. Unfortunately I usually had to work in the evening. My father didn’t have a DVR or VCR for that matter. My solution was to make my sister take my VCR to my father’s, tape the show and bring everything back so that I could watch it after work. There were reruns on the weekend but I just couldn’t wait that long. What can I say… I was hooked. Damn you Mr. Monaghan!!!
