dude…that was no sodium pentathol, aka truth serum. that was LSD, aka ACID. They Dosed the hell out of Sayid. And if anyone out here has ever played with that stuff, then you know that look he had just as well as i do…just listen to him say “I am not a hostile…” it might as well been “im tripping balllllsss”

Why i think its acid? besides the fact that its dripped on a Sugar Cube (classic acid techniques), this is also the 70′s, and (just a reference) but Richard Alpert is named after the Real Richard Alpert, who was one of the harvard scientists to experiment with LSD…..oh and they did have a herion addict on the first 3 seasons of the show…so tripping balls on some acid isnt too far fetched,

A purpose driven life. Sayid has a purpose in Ben’s life. Ben knows that he was shot and survived in 1977. Ben guided Sayid back to this point. The island may be done with him now. Smokey anyone?

Jack, Hurley, Kate, Jin, Faraday, Miles and Juliet wlll each have a purposed for being on the island until the incident.

I think Jack is there to save Ben, again. Simple. Happened. Juliet will undoubtedly make an impression. Faraday’s notebook is filling up. etc.

Well, what about … older Ben and Sun (and Frank?)could not land in the 70s because they are already there as younger versions. And this is scientifically not allowed while the island stands still in time.
Ben wants somebody to kill his younger version … tells Sayid all the time that he is a killer and trains him to hate older Ben. Sayid moves on and tries to change all his bad feelings while doing what he is supposed to do. Now older Ben has the chance to get back to the main island in the 70s somehow (think he knows how to do this).
When he is there he is doing something to change the timeline … perhaps he wants the purge or anything else he has done never to be happen. Maybe he uses the O6 from the beginning they crashed on the island to change something in the past that he could not do alone. Maybe the O6 are responsible for the incident … could be something that older Ben tries to change to a different outcome.
Widmore told Desmond “It is not me who hates you.” Desmond can “jump” into each constellation without going the path step by step like all the others on the show. That makes him important to influence something somehow … maybe without even noticing it. He is a joker like in a game when something is not running the way you want it to be.
My guess … Last scene of the show is … Jack wakes up as in episode 1/1 first scene and finds himself … wherever … and everything just happened in his head. Thought could be him because he is (or was?) the main character who earns the biggest money on the show. And all the others … he could have met or just seen somewhere before in his life und just uses them as avatars to create his mind-story. ;o)

Dude great explanations, I agree with you that there are several paths the show could take now and I’m interested to see which one is chosen. I like your examples and I’m beginning to understand the time-travel madness that is Lost.
Still not sure about Ilana… but I think there’s more to her than just a bounty hunter. Personally, I’m more interested in Caesar.
And, just to screw with my head more, I remembered that somehow Desmond is exempt from some of these static time rules, making him an x-factor, a game-changer, a variable (episode title!). I can’t wait to see how he plays into this.
