March 4th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
That was an amazing episode. I feel sorry for our neighbours who are still waiting. …And that picture of Sawyer frightens me.
March 4th, 2009 at 8:16 pm

March 4th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
i live in australia & watched it justin.tv
March 4th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
There is NOT a new episode next week, which makes me die a little inside. Although loving being a Canadian right now, having already seen it
THE FOOT!! AHHH!! Of course they show us the back of the statue and that’s it…damnit.
Seeing Charlotte just…ugh. I hate that she’s gone. And I loved the look on Sawyer’s face at the end.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
The satue looked familiar from the back … It would be too wierd if it was who i think it is …..
March 4th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
And you think it is…?
March 4th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Wow, top-notch, from the minute this episode started, I had a huge smile on my face. Can’t wait for two weeks!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
OMFG!!! THE 4 TOED STATUE!!!!!!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
great episode.
I had a feeling sawyer(LaFleur) and juliet were going to have a relationship.
Wondering if Horaces’ Son is Jacob. Seems like he was the only child conceived and born on the island.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
4 toed statue FTW!! wasn’t horace married to the blonde chick though? olivia goodspeed?
also lol at richards sawyer nickname: eyeliner guy
March 4th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
4 toed statue and Richard Alpert!!!!!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Kate looks like hell.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
the statue is def of sawyer, no doubt in my mind. the long hair is what sold it. the only thing i dont get is towards the top of the head, there were lion-ear-shaped things, as well as a headpiece. good stuff, but its still no “316.” @tsollost- i know who her son grows up to be and its not jakey. its someone else but i no how this site doesnt like spoilers, and thats a good thing. i will be willing to tell you via e-mail if you want.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
I thought it was a solid episode. It didn’t beat last weeks but it gave us some answers.
Seeing Richard was cool (he must be so confused with all these time travelers pooping in and saying they know him and everything
)
Horace’s son is probably going to be important though I’m not sure how.
I’m guessing Dan snuck off to the Orchid between the time jumps (when they saved Amy and when Jin found Kate/Jack/Hurley), possibly warning little Charlotte to leave the island first. That would explain why he’s not there anymore.
Eventually I think we’re going to meet young Ben and that is going to be awesome.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
The statue looked somewhat egyptian, maybe something like anubs. Hurly was painting a picture of the spynx last episode also. No clue if it had any signifigance. And just outta couriousity why isn’t penny’s charles or charley the second or jr?
March 4th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
@ JMayzler : I appreciate the offer but I’d rather not know. Im not the spoiler type of guy. I don’t mind sittin’ back and waitin’ for the answers to arrive as intended. Although I am wondering how you know the statue is of Sawyer. He wasn’t that far in the past to have made an impact on the islands people to have a statue erected of him, Let alone THAT FAR in the past at all. I D K. But I will be more than interested in finding out if they ever reveal it.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Also – Paul’s necklace that he was wearing was Egyptian. The ankh, which means “eternal life”
March 4th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Awesome episode.
So, the year they are currently in is 1977. Young Ben arrived on the island sometime in the early 1970′s. Either Ben doesnt live in the barracks anymore after meeting Richard or the losties somehow forget who Benjamin is?? But that doesn’t seem plausible considering how much they do remember in those three years. This also means that Widmore is the leader of the island during this time.
Now I am not good at remembering certain things in the episode but I dont remember them saying the name of the boy… So, the boy that is born must be significant considering he was born on the island but it can’t be miles or dan so who is it? I think it’s Ethan or Goodwin but I have very small evidence to back this up just becuase both are white, born at a time that could respectably make them how old they are when we see them in 2004, and why Ethan became the “doctor” of the island to study why pregnant women die. Othen than that, it could be some minor character we have seen like Tom, or an even more important character than Ethan or Goodwin.
The four toed statue thing was very strange. I didnt get a good glimpse of the statue but I did notice Sawyer and Juliet were both looking in the jungle for some reason i think it was after locke turned the wheel. If you remember there was a pause when both were talking and Juliet looked in the jungle and saw something. Maybe this is nothing, but it just seemed real odd in the midst of all the talking they had. Maybe Juliet was thinking of something else idk i have to go back and look at that scene.
Anyone else think it was strange how there was a well but no hole after the time flash? I didn’t get that part.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Good episode not quite as good as the previous couple but a nice episode all around.
First off GREAT seeing the statue it looks like a woman and to be honest when i first saw it i thought it kinda looked like Juliet from the back a lil idk probably not but thats just what i first thought.
I am confused about the whole Horace/Amy thing i guess somewhere in the next 15 or so years something must happen to Amy or they just get seperated for some reason. I wonder if Olivia was on the Island at that time or if she will come later. Or was Amy after Olivia? Olivia was there when Ben was born right? Which was in the 1950’s so what happened to Olivia then?
I am happy to see Juliet and Sawyer together cuz now its free for Jack and Kate to be a couple again haha. I was also happy for Juliet that she was able to finally deliver a baby sucsessfully good for her.
I think that Horace and Amy’s son will be significant somehow, personally i think it is someone we already know just not sure who yet.
BTW DHARMA jeep…..pretty bada** way better than the hippie van haha
March 4th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Was Horace ever officialy with Oliva though? I remember Horace and Olivia were the ones who originally found Roger and Emily in the forest with their new born son, Ben in the 1960′s…but I never really saw Olivia with Horace other than that scene. The only time I remember Olivia is her being the teacher and talking about the volcano to Ben and Annie. They could have been together in the 60′s but something happened with her or she found someone else to love.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
So im thinking amy was after oliva if they were even togather at all. It says that horace and oliva found ben’s parents after his mom gave birth in ohio. Assuming that was in the 60′s ben was about 10 to 13 when he arrived on the island. That puts them anywhere in the 70′s at the latest eirly 80′s.
I would really like to know what happend to his mother though. How she made it to the island and how she got the chance to teach ben to read…..
March 4th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Wow!
What an amazing episode! I can’t get enough of this show! Its my sanity show for the week..lol. I think the writers are doing excellent job at telling the story at the right pace. An hour is not enough time to tell everything, but they are doing the best story telling this season! I will have to put this as one of my favorite “sawyer” episode along with the “The Long Con”..
March 4th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
I dont think she really taught Ben to read i think that was just Ben being sarcastic a** Ben personally. And i am also thinking that Olivia was before Amy and its possible Olivia and Horace were just friends and not even together.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
Ok Freakin great episode!
The statue is not going to be sawyer or someone we know….that’ll be dumb….it’s going to be a simple statue of Anubis or some egyptian god. The statue can be seen holding an ankh….which is the same cross that Paul had around his neck! A theory I’m thinking of is that Paul was born on the island or somehow related to the egyptians or a simple strong believer….The son….well he could possibly end up being Jacob….or Paul was Jacob….I donno…..But there is some connection or relation to why the statue is holding the same thing which was around Pauls neck….and horrace did build the cabin….but didn’t he build it for olivia? Man soo much stuff goin on.
Amazing episode and I’m so pumped!
March 4th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I agree that Ben was just being a sarcastic ass when he said “my mother taught me” (to read). He tends to make pretty great comments like that a lot, I highly doubt his mom actually taught him to read.
Unless he was illiterate when he got to the island with his dad, and his mom met him a lot out in the woods… but that seems pretty unlikely.
I didn’t notice the statue was holding an ankh, I was probably freaking out with my jaw dropped, and then yelling at the tv when it disappeared.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Even though it didn’t meet my expectation, i still thought it was a good episode. I was happy to see Sawyer, but i feel sorry for Juliet because of Kate. When she start feeling something for Jack, he was in love with Kate now the same think with Sawyer. I hope Kate stays with Jack.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Maybe Horace was building the cabin for his son Jacob. That would make some amount of sense. But I guess also when we “saw” Jacob in “The Man Behind the Curtain,” he looked like an old man, but it was only 30 years later. I don’t know, to many things to think about. Also the Olivia thing is kind of confusing. Maybe in the time that Horace found Roger and Emily in the woods and the time in 1974 that we just saw they separated. I guess that’s a pretty easy explanation.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
@AgentM: Nice catch on the statue holding the Ankh i hadnt noticed that at first it looks like it is holding one in each hand too.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
2 to 1 odds: The “incident” referred to in the swan orientation film will be caused by Faraday when he’s in the swan, and the “incident” will be what destroys the giant statue. booya!
March 4th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
So I just read that egyptian gods are seen holding those necklaces around their hands. So that statue could actually be referring to jacob considering he is a “god” on the island so in trying to figure out who is on the statue we may figure out who jacob is. But, it does look like a woman with the long hair and the skirt and does not seem to have a built body like Locke or Sawyer, although the egyptians may not have been building details like muscle on their statues.
When Horace was in the time loop building the cabin 12 years after the purge, he mentioned he was building it for him and his lady which could either be Olivia or Amy. On Lostpedia, Horace and Olivia have the same last name which may be that they are married or they are brother/sister. OK I just looked at a picture of Olivia and she indeed has a ring on her left hand and I think Horace does too.
Since Horace was the so called leader of the DI…he probably knows alot about the island. He was a mathmetician which means he could possibly know alot about Hurley’s numbers and time travel. Anyoene else think it was odd how Horace knew about Ben’s birth? I think Horace was told by Ben to visit him when he was born in the forest. But why would Horace be interested in Ben if he knew he was going to kill everyone in the DI? I think Horace is connected immensely to Jacob but i dont know how yet.
March 5th, 2009 at 12:11 am
If he’s referring to “the orchid” and not the swan, and think skip is right. adding onto what he said, i think that will also be what causes the pregnancy problem on the island.
March 5th, 2009 at 12:16 am
I agree, Horace does know a lot or seem to be connected to a lot some how…..his nose was bleeding in the repeating vision…some time travel or something? He had dynamite, which he must have got them from the black rock, which means he did know about it!
….Do we know exactly when Ben was born? Within the 3 years, I’m sure if they noticed that Ben was there they came up with some plan to not interfere which is why they had that deal or somethin that Jin and Juliet were talking about….whatever happened happened…so even if they tried to kill Ben….it already happened therefore it can’t be changed. Everything they are doing was already meant to happen.
The statue was obviously destroyed by the volcano eruption which killed most of the egyptians who lived on the island originally….
Where is olivia?
March 5th, 2009 at 12:27 am
I thought this was a great episode. Sawyer finally found his redemption and purpose. The exit is in Tunisia, which is in N Africa. Perhaps that’s why the Egyptian influence showed in the statue. Then again if the island group has been around long enough they may have influenced Egyptian culture instead. I do wonder why they needed Paul’s body. If Jacob is much older than people realize, then perhaps they needed his body as a new vessel to hold his essence, spirit, soul, etc. Could explain Christian as well.
March 5th, 2009 at 12:31 am
Jacob can’t really be related to horace cos locke mentioned jacob to richard in the 50s, 20 years earlier, and richard reacted, just saying.
March 5th, 2009 at 12:40 am
Great episode… I liked it a lot having a “break” from the island mythology and more development on the characters. The statue was really awesome. Before I thought it was Locke, but after this episode, he’d have to use a lot of hair growth medicine to look like that.
What I still don’t know is how will 316′ers and Juliet, Sawyer, Daniel and Miles will go back to the present. Will someone turn the wheel again? Maybe we’ll see Widmore turning the wheel before the season ends! That’s exciting…
March 5th, 2009 at 12:46 am
For a moment, in the security camera, I thought Horace was Jacob, and I FREAKED! ZOMGWTFFOURTOEDSTATUE!
And I CANNOT WAIT! I don’t mean it in a way as in I’m pumped, but LITERALLY can not wait! I WILL DIE! It’s hard enough with one week…but TWO!? WHY MUST YOU TORTURE US DARLTON?!
March 5th, 2009 at 12:51 am
One thing about the island being somewhat derived from Egyptian culture is, how the hell do the hostiles / natives speak English so damn well??? Also, it seems that people keep going to the island, even before DHARMA. Charles has a British accent, he certainly got that before he went to the island… So many questions! And 2 weeks of waiting…
March 5th, 2009 at 12:55 am
I wonder if the rest of the flight landed in the 1970′s too? That would mean Ben would potentially see himself as a little kid… I feel like Locke and the rest of the survivors are in the present though, seeing as the Dharma station they were in last episode was unoccupied.
March 5th, 2009 at 1:19 am
so does anyone actually read other peoples comments here, or do we all just spew out random thoughts? we’re like season 1 here; all questions, no answers.
March 5th, 2009 at 1:40 am
I dont think the statue is holding 2, but it is def. holding one, The other hand may be holding a crook (not sure if thats spelled right) and i dont think that its anubis anymore it very well may be ra. The crownish thing on its head leads me to believe this. It def. isn’t a woman and it def. isn’t saywer. Its not waring a shirt and its undefined body tone lead me to this. I think that richard has something to do with the egyptians hence the eyeliner and olive skin. Hell the statue may even be of richard. When ben first met richard he had longer hair and looked the youngest he ever has on lost. Although, that was the only time on the show he looked any diffrent. So either he travled back in time with witmore and crew…Or he ages like benjamin button..or all of bens flashbacks are lies too….
March 5th, 2009 at 1:43 am
also in the episode with jin and russo(sp?) the temple is littered with hygrolyphics(sp?)….and a question for anyone really..if i followed along right the well is now full of rocks….so before it can be used again it has to be excavated…and obviously the orchid was build post the other faclities, right?
March 5th, 2009 at 1:51 am
I’m pretty sure that Nestor Carbonell (Richard) doesn’t actually wear eyeliner, his eyes are actually naturally like that. I did like Sawyer’s joke about that though, everytime I see him on the show I notice that right away.
If you look up photos of him (other than lost pics) he looks the same with the eyes.
March 5th, 2009 at 2:10 am
Oh my god i am sooo happy to finally see Sawyer and juliet together. Seriosly, that girl deserves some happiness. If Sawyer leaves her for KAte I will die. I mean Sawyer and JUliet have a much more healthy relationship. And thefour towed statue… I freaked out!!! Amazing episode
March 5th, 2009 at 2:49 am
Hmmmm i was rooting for Sawyer and Juliet to get together but now its actually happenned it feels really weird, also good tactic by the writers to now having an excuse for jin to speak fluent english, Daniel Dae Kim must be very relieved.
March 5th, 2009 at 5:45 am
I have to say that Lost is making less and less sense every episode. The writers keep adding these storylines that are backed up by nothing. It seems like none of the characters are really aware or care about how bizarre of a situation they are in. Why does John Locke need to die in order for the Oceanic 6 to come back to the island? Why do they need to come back to the island to save the others? Why do none of the characters ask any questions? I mean, we havn’t even really gotten a clear answer on what The Others were dong on the island, and Juliet is one of them. Why dosn’t she tell them in detail who exactly The Others are, what they were doing on the island, and all the details that she knows about the island. Why don’t the rest of them try to get more answers from her. Who are the Dharma initiative? Its obvious that they are doing research and stuff, but I just find it really strange how Sawyer and people don’t just ask them wtf is going on? It seems like none of the characters care about getting answers anymore. This show is pissing me off.
March 5th, 2009 at 7:54 am
Wow I really liked this episode! I was wondering the same thing BaronTR about Paul’s body, that and Olivia. I cant wait to find out who Amy’s baby is! What I thought was odd after thinking about it a bit was that when Richard meets Ben as a kid he is dressed all shabby with the longer hair and all the times we see him before that he is all clean cut, I guess he could just be disguised the way the others typically disguised themselves but I just thought that was odd.
March 5th, 2009 at 8:35 am
Awesome episode. Strange, but awesome. I have no idea where the story will lead to now.

OK, this is HUGE… just looked up Egyptian statues, and I found one that I am 99.99% is the four toed statue, and after reading about it, it makes so much sense!! The statue is of Sobek, the Egyptian God of Fertility. Look it up!!
here are some things I found:
- It was believed that on the day of creation, Sobek emerged from the “Dark Waters” in order to arrange the world. (hmm… sounds familiar)
- In Egyptian Art, Sobek was depicted as an ordinary crocodile, or as a man with the head of a crocodile. When considered a patron of the pharaoh’s army, he was shown with the symbol of royal authority – the uraeus. (Left hand) He was also shown with an ankh (right hand), representing his ability to undo evil and so cure ills (Locke??).
- He was also said to call on suitable gods and goddesses required for protecting people in situation, effectively having a more distant role, nudging things along, rather than taking an active part (getting people where they need to be)
Also, when they see the statue, the well isn’t there yet, so they must have been really way back in time. And as for the time period they are in now, it would have to be the mid to late 80s. When Dan see’s Charlotte she looks to be around 3, and she was supposedly born in 1979. But she could have been born earlier…
I also don’t think the new born boy is Jacob, because Jacob was in charge in the early 50s.
I have a theory that all the people that go to the island, in all the different times and vessels, are all proxies… maybe for the Black Rock… just one big loop, with different people in the same roles each time.
March 5th, 2009 at 9:41 am
@Rolo good thought about Sobek! Things are looking mad interesting for the philosophy…..and yes Charlotte was said to be born in 1979….the may or may not be true….When Faraday thinks he saw her it was the year 1977….buuuut lets remember that time on the island time isn’t reletive….
March 5th, 2009 at 9:57 am
@Cab Driver……The show is a little more than just what you see on TV. If you are interested in backgrounds about the characters and more information on the DI then you need to do some research. The DI has a whole story line backed up by tons of information learned from the Lost Experience. Go here: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/DHARMA_Initiative to learn more about Dharma. And do you really think that the Losties would begin asking questions now? I mean seriously….a giant black smoke monster flies around killing people in the first season! They have seen proof of crazy stuff goin down…Locke himself was in a wheel chair…I think the reason they aren’t asking questions is because who would they ask them to? and they are probably used to the crazy stuff by now…and when they try to ignore it, it comes back after them….I mean come on! They saw a freakin island disappear! There is no question about it, it happened! What’s the point of sitting around wondering why….the only way to fix things is to go forward!
….Check this out:http: //www.jeffreyngiam.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/lost-season-5-poster-02-l.jpg Where is Faraday’s left foot in that picture??
March 5th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Wow that’s the best episode so far!
Can anyone remind me when did Sawyer meet Richard before?
“Eyeliner guy” LMAO
March 5th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
maybe Richard alpert is left over egyptian … he does look like he loves to wear black eyeliner … I could very well picture him as a pharoh … but that would just be wierd..I think if the show went in that direction I wouldnt be able to watch it anymore it would be too corny
March 5th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
The statue is clearly Egyptian in style. The hair, the ears, the way it has one foot forward and is gripping objects – all very typical features of Egyptian statues. That ties in with the heiroglyphs around the island, and also with the Ankh necklace Amy kept in her drawer. I wonder if the ancient Egyptians had access to the island. If they did, DHARMA is clearly aware of it, and uses some of their iconography.
Someone above mentioned the well being filled in. I’d guess that prior to DHARMA the well reached down to the wheel, just as they found it when Locke descended into it. That was probably pre-70s. Either DHARMA or somone else then sealed it intentionally, such that by the time of the Orchid the elevator was the only method of accessing it.
One interesting thought: when Locke broke his leg and found himself with Christian and the wheel, that was in the same time period as when the others found the well absent, and Miles noticed the statue in the distance. This means the wheel chamber existed in that time.
March 5th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
@Cab Driver
I know exactly what u mean, as much as I love the show, it is really irritating that they have yet to explain questions that were raised way back in the first 3 seasons.
Great episode though
March 5th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
When I watched the episode I was like… Damn, I feel weird!!! It’s so senceless seeing Juliet and Sawyer together *goosebumps* It’s, it’s… Freaking! It’s not fair! I hope Kate and Sawyer get it together again, I don’t care about Jack or Juliet. Maybe I’m cruel but that’s how I feel.
And about the four toed statue – probably it’s Anubis’. He’s the one who waits for the souls in the world beyond. The symbol that we saw on Paul’s neck is used for dispatching the dead, its function was protecting them after death. And that’s what the island is – another hidden world, a mystery…
I think Amy’s baby is Jacob. You remember Cabin Fever? Where Horas was building a house for him and his family? Jacob lives or at least stays in the cabin that was built from his father for him, it’s logical.
However, I will suffer next week without Lost… And I’ll suffer seing more of Sawyer and Juliet…
March 5th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
BaronTR:
“I do wonder why they needed Paul’s body. If Jacob is much older than people realize, then perhaps they needed his body as a new vessel to hold his essence, spirit, soul, etc. Could explain Christian as well.”
Very good point. This could mean that now Locke is back on the island, he is infact Jacob.
March 5th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
I like that thought about the four-toed statue being the egyptian god of fertility. What if it’s apparent destruction is related to the lack of fertility among the women on the island?
I suppose Amy’s son could be Jacob but on the topic of Egypt the ankh that Paul had is a sign of rebirth and continued life. That could mean his body then Christian’s then possibly Claire’s become vessels for Jacob to continue his life, thus being reborn.
I do think that the fact that Horace built the cabin is important though.
March 5th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Daniel seeing “Charlotte” made me cry!
March 5th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
My theory is that shooting Amy’s attackers caused some problems in the flow of events. Amy should have died, and she should have never gave birth to her son. We’ll see, if there is any “course correction”. Of course I might be wrong and it was unevitable that someone saves her life from the “others”.
It was definitely a nice episode. Even though I like Daniel, it was great to see him moving to the background, and Sawyer becoming the main character in the Dharma Initiative. Well balenced episode, even though I am a timetravel maniac, I loved this “quiet” episode. Good atmosphere, great play by the actors. Sawyer’s character is loveable he became a hero from a con-artist. I was a Skater, now I am a Suliet fan
.
Good job.
March 6th, 2009 at 8:19 am
This episode had some very good high points. Overall, it was great.
I just really want to see the front of the 4 toed statue…
