I don’t mean to be offensive but if you think Ben just took a beating of some sort then you need to re-watch a lot of Lost. Did you notice the last time we saw him speaking to Jack (before the bloodied appearance) he said he had to “tie up a loose end” in that unnerving coolness that almost always mean violence is in tow? Then he shows up bloodied, on a pay phone, on a DOCK, and Penny and Des live in a BOAT, and Ben promised Widmore that he’d kILL PENNY. And your first thought is someone just beat him up? I somehow doubt it, buddy. He either got to Penny and killed her after a struggle with Des (doubtful) tried to get to Penny and Des beat his brains in (little more likely) or Widmore finally found out where Penny is, has someone extra guarding her, and THAT guy got a hold of Ben and beat him senseless when Ben tried to kill her (most likely). While Hurley and Sayid may have been being hunted by Widmore’s men, the thought that they were actively pursuing Ben is a little ludicrous when we already know W can’t kill Ben and Ben certainly left us no doubt that he was going after Penny.
